I’m excited to showcase the Dream Machine, an innovative project where I transformed a Samsung Note 20 Ultra into a high-performance gaming console. By integrating this cutting-edge smartphone with vintage game consoles, I created a hybrid system that blends modern technology with classic gaming nostalgia.
The Dream Machine exemplifies my expertise in tech integration, electronics and my passion for bridging the gap between old and new technology. This project highlights my ability to repurpose existing devices and create a seamless, immersive gaming experience.
For this project it has alway been a dream to have all of my child hood games in one place and to be able to pass it one to my children and I wanted to give a big thanks to by beta testers, Alex and Alison!
This device was damaged when its previous owner went swimming, resulting in several issues, including a non-functional screen. However, it works exceptionally well with Samsung's DeX mode, allowing you to transform it into a desktop setup. Even with the screen not fully operational, it can still function as a home console. While similar devices are widely available on eBay and other sites, I managed to restore this one and utilize its powerful chipset to create a formidable emulator for PC games and more. Another challenge was overheating due to the damage, which required a Thermoelectric Cooler (TEC). Consequently, overclocking is not an option.
This Dream Machine comes in two versions: the desktop console called Alpha and the handheld model named Beta. The Beta is crafted from a budget Samsung Z Flip 4, giving it a nostalgic Game Boy Advance SP vibe when unfolded. When connected with a Razer Kishi V2, it offers a compact alternative to the Steam Deck, enhanced by the benefits of an ARM CPU inside.
